We are in the midst of an algebra unit of work and I am slowly but surely building up a series of short videos to explain various concepts we are covering. The students have also been provided with access to a shared folder in Google Drive where they can provide me with feedback and suggestions on the videos ... including everything from content, my explanation and how I have used various technologies. Here are a few examples of what I have created so far using Telligami and a green screen, Explain Everything and iMovie:

A brain child of the College Principal Class Team, the SWITCH program was born!
The aim of this program is to 'switch' students on to learning, by providing video clips that students can access from home. These videos will explain the key learning for the wee in either Literacy or Numeracy. As a result of watching these video clips, students will have a good grasp of the key learning and be able to access information repeatedly. They will be able to enter their class with confidence about the key concepts they will be learning. Click the button above to check out some of the clips the teachers involved in this program (moi included) have created. On my eLearning Page (under Coding) I have detailed some of the work the students and I have been doing to build our knowledge of coding.
There have been some great articles in the media recently around the importance of teaching coding in schools. And I wholeheartedly agree with them! Check out these articles to see what I am talking about:
A great resource to begin your coding journey is http://code.org/. GAFE, or Google Apps For Education, has arrived at Northern Bay College!
I have been using Google Drive for shared planning this year. Slowly but surely the team I work with are beginning to use the shared drive to share planning documents and resources - a saviour for my poor inbox! The students are now all set and ready to go with their own GAFE accounts - I can't wait to get planning for how we can use the resources for some collaborative work next term. For a great read on Collaborative Learning check out chapter 3 of 'Classroom Instruction That Works'. Here are some of my scribbles (screenshot from Notability app) |
