'Genius' Hour.
On a visit to Manor Lakes P-12 College in Wyndham Vale I was introduced to the concept of 'Google Hour', which is built on the search-engine Google's 'Genius Hour', which allowed it’s engineers to spend 20% of their time to work on any pet project they wanted. People were allowed to work on something that interested them, and productivity went up. The idea is, in a sense, no different to 'Passion Projects' and 'Project Based Learning', which I'm sure you will have heard of (in some form or another).
The idea of having my students to follow their passions and learn about topics which interest them has always appealed to me. I want my students to take more control of their learning.
Lots of research, some in the form of 'googling', and this is what I came up with ...
I borrowed the idea from Genius Hour on how I would introduce the concept to my students: Pep Talk from Kid President.
